Isaiah 14:12 “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer,
Son of the Morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the
nations!”
The sculpture represents the story of the fall of Lucifer.
Lucifer is the ‘bright and shining one’ or Daystar. He is the most powerful
angel and chooses to disobey God. He falls to earth because of his sin. The
sculpture powerfully portrays both stories. There is such beauty to the
sculpture as Singleton has sculpted an attractive figure flying gracefully, but
not too fast. The figure has outstretched arms as if embraces its destiny,
almost not believing this could really be happening, a tragedy of disobedience
with the most dire of consequences.
“I think on the most basic level, what we all want is to
live in a state of grace. To live in a place of love and acceptance and
gratitude. To lose that, man that’s a bitter fate.” Gib Singleton
